Gymnastics is a little odd. Not only are you competing as a team against another team but also yourself against everyone including the people on your team. In other words you have a team score but you also have an individual score (ie: all-around). Its like two competitions at the same time. It's also the the most difficult sport or activity there is. Most of the skills require a great deal of strength. To get good at it requires a lot of work and pain. And your body has to be in the best shape it can be.

It's a team sport only in the academic sense: different groups of individual gymnasts get points & those points are added up to produce team wins and losses. But in reality, it behaves in all other fashions like an individual sport.

It would be interesting to see two gymnasts trying to do floor programs or uneven bars at the same time & against each other. ;)

First of all, gymnastics is a sport. You )person below me) try flipping, running, and conditionning 20 hours a week. Gymnastics is both an individual and team sport. You always compete to try to gain the highest score out of anyone, but your teams scores are combined on what team actually wins the competition. I hope i helped!

Gymnastics is judged by people. The judges evalutate you as a team and also as an individual. Therefore, gymnastics is both a team and individual event.

If it can actually be considered a sport, it would be an individual sport like bowling. You are on a team, but the performance of the rest of the team does not affect your performance.

An example of a team sport is baseball or football. You can be the best pitcher in the world, but if you play with bad players, you will always lose.

Both. Every year the NCAA holds tournaments in men's and women's gymnastics and awards medals in individual events and medals to the best teams. The University of Georgia is one of the best programs for women's gymnastics in America.

It's both.

Most major meets have team and individual competitions. Your team will compete for the best team scores. Then the best on each apparatus again compete for individual wins.
