I have hydroseeded a steep bank that was giving me problems getting grass started. Hydroseeding is an excellent way to get a lawn started but it is not the cheapest way. The hydroseed provides the proper seed, fertilizer, mulch (without weed seeds like straw has) and water. It germinates quicker because the seed has already been soaked in water before being applied. It's almost idiot-proof but you do have to provide additional water if nature does not.

I didn't do my entire lawn because it is expensive. The steep bank I did goes down to the road an my seed was always washing away. It is about 20 ft high and 200 feet long and they charged me $200. Depending upon where you live that may or may not be what you might expect to pay. Call and ask for an estimate from a few companies.

Now hold on a minute! Where are you located? What type of soil do you have? these 2 things can vary an answer alot! If you have clay, sod is an endless watering battle for years as it does not adhere to it fast, thus needing constant water! Hydro seed works just about as good as slit-seeding and strawing in most areas! Hydro seed costs much more! In any case, the most important thing is to get your *new seed* moist a few times a day. If you are in the USA, you cannot do anything with a yard right now anyway(unless you are in the extreme south) In most areas of the country, May is the prime time to seed or sod!

I would never recommend hydroseeding unless you couldn't hold sod there. If it's your level lawn, go with sod. It's more $, but you have instant, quality turf without the weeds. There is always some weed seed in seed, and without the turf to block other weeds, you can have a real ugly lawn.

you're able to possibly wait around 2 weeks atleaste. you're able to offer your backyard time to technique and desolve the seed first. in case you get a lot of rain interior of the two weeks it would be nice to circulate forward and fertilize. in any different case wait the two weeks given which you will burn/kill the grass out in case you practice too plenty too quickly.
