O.K., we all realize that we're mortal, and IT will happen sometime,
but I mean if you had cancer or something, and had the opportunity
to wrap up everything.

I just did an argumentative essay on assisted suicide for terminaly ill patients and I was in favor of it. I would want to die in my sleep though I think knowing would only add stress. If i had cancer I would the otion to take control of my destiny and deside when to die.

I would rather die in my sleep. If I have advanced warning then I would live like I was dieing. At least this way I am living the way I want to. Life is on my mind- not death.

Everyday of our lives we have been given the chance to wrap things up if a person goes 40 - 90 years and still has failed to take care of their loose ends what would be the advantage of knowing you will die a painful death is six months do them?
I have wife and children and the last thing I would ask is for them to wake up in the morning seeing their dad/ husband dead, that would be to tough a day.

I would rather know. I know people should live everyday like tomorrow is not promised.. However there are somethings that need to be done before you go that you don't even think about during your days...

I would want to give my son tons of hugs and kisses... write a letter to him for every birthday, milestone, special day of his life so that he could have something to fill the void. I would want to make sure his future care would be in the hands of someone who had his best interest in mind... so many things that normally I don't think about.. why worry about who's going to take care of him tomorrow.. I will be here...

But we are not always promised that are we? It's easy to say but difficult to do. I think if I knew I was not going to be around in say a month from now then I would have more initiative to make sure these things are done.

I would suffer through months of pain and sickness and force a smile... in order to make sure my son had what he needed for the rest of his life....

dying suddenly just doesn't leave any room for closure.. you are always left with "what ifs" and "whys".. I don't want the rest of his life to be spent like that... so I would use the end of mine to make sure he didn't have to.....

There is something to be said for having the opportunity to say good-bye and to allow loved ones to come to terms with the impending death of a family member. However, death from cancer is not fun - it is a dreadful way to die, bringing great suffering and loss of dignity to the person dying, and huge grief to those around him. Personally, I would prefer the peaceful and unannounced death - much easier on everyone in most ways.

But with that said, I am glad I have had the chance to say good-bye.
