This is one of the most successful lies of all time. History shows us that people will believe anything to "justify" their hatred of Jews.
Since the mid 1800s, Jews had been buying up tracts of wasteland in Palestine and rebuilding the land, making it bloom again. It had laid in waste for centuries.
In 1948, the UN voted to divide the remaining portion of Palestine (80% of Palestine had already been chopped off in 1922 to create the country of Jordan) into a Jewish and another Arab state.
The Jews accepted this partition; The Arab rejected it, and the combined armies of the Arab world set out to "finish Hitler's work" as they called it.
Following the Israeli war for Independence, under the urging of the Mufti, and former Nazi parter, Amin al-Husseini, around 600,000 Arabs left their homes in the part of Palestine that became the State of Israel and moved about 20 east into Jordanian controlled Judea/Samaria.
Around a million Jews were forced out of their ancestral homes in the Arab world and came to find refuge in the Jewish state.
The Arabs that stayed in Israel became citizens of Israel, and today 1/6 of Israelis are Arabs. But the Arabs who left during the fighting (today's "Palestinians") have been forced by the Arab and Western world to live in slums for the past 60 years, abused and used as a front line weapon against Israel.

In 1948, the US was not as connected to Israel as it is now. Besides, Israel was created by a UN vote. Israelis did not just come on in and conquer the land or anything like that. Here's the mid-20th century history:
The "holy land" had been controlled by many different countries/empires throughout its existance. In the early half of the 20th century, though, it did not belong to the Israelis or the Palestinians. It belonged to Britain as a mandate. (Mandate is a euphemism for a colony.) In 1948, a vote took place within the UN. The vote was open to all members of the UN, including the arab nations. The vote favored the creation of Israel. The Israelis got land on the northern part of the holy land and the south. (The south is the negev desert, which is the least desirable part of the country.) The Palestinians got the west and the east of the holy land. (The west was the Gaza Strip and more land around it. The east is the West Bank, which has the best farmland.) Jerusalem was internationalized. Statistically, 2 of every 3 people in the entire holy land (meaning the land controlled by both the Israelis and Palestinians) were Arab. However, 60% of the people in the Israeli sections were Jewish.
***This means that each group of people had a majority in its own land to begin with. The Israelis didn't kick anyone out. All they did was inhabit (and immigrate to) the holy land before Israel's creation.***
Things got more complicated after Israel's creation. For instance, Israel was immediately attacked by 6 Arab countries. Israel won, so it received a buffer zone for protection.
Here's my point: Jews already were the majority in the lands given by the UN (and Britain) to Israel. Many of these Jews had lived in the holy land for millenia. (The Jews had great kingdoms there at 1,000 B.C.) Nobody was forcibly removed from his or her home by Israel and the US was not very involved with Israel at the time.

1. Prior to 1948 the Palestinians were nomads that were not wanted in any of the Arab countries. This includes Egypt, Syria, Jordan, Lebanon, and Saudi Arabia,
2. There has NEVER been a country called Palestine in the recorded history of mankind until the Arab league tried along with the U.N. in 1948 gave them land to become a country.
3. When Israel became a nation again in 1948 with the blessings of the U.N. the Arab countries including Iraq attack Israel and they lost!
4. When the land that was supposed to go to the Palestine's the Egyptians, Jordonites, and the Syrians carved up the land for themselves and refused to allow the Palestinians self government.
5. Also there has been for over 3500 years of recorded history facts showing that the Jewish people have been in Israel and the surrounding areas.

1. Jews had ALWAYS lived in Israel.
2. A new migration of Jews started in the late 1800's, and most of what they did was to BUY the land from the arabs that owned it.
3. The British were occupying the land, and didn't really take sides (although many favored the arabs) as the Jews and Arabs fought.. When they partitioned the land in 1948- they basically gave the land to the Jews that the Jews were already living on (that they had purchased), and the land that the arabs were living on to the arabs. There was some overlap on both sides- and these were the houses that were 'taken over'.
4. When the British left and the Jews declared themselves an independent nation- the Arabs attacked from all sides. The British assumed that the Jews would be killed and overrun- but they had prepared for this day. Not only with some guns, but with an organization to take over the governmental responsibilities. (logistics wins wars... not tactics).
So - after they had purchased the land, and then had it given to them, they then had to earn their right to keep it in their war for independence in 1948. I don't think it gets much 'fairer' than that.
BTW- about 20% of Israel's population is Arab. They live peacefully in Israel and have the highest standard of living of any arab in the middle east.

What a crock! There were Jews in Palestine before Israel was created in 1948. What the Isralies did was build new settlements and reclaim land that was desert. The Palestinians had that land from the time that the Romans destroyed Jerusalem 2000 years ago and they didn't do squat with it beut the minute that the Jews started developing farms and towns, they started their killing sprees.

It was a civil war.
Arabs lost, Jews won.
To the victors go the spoils.
And to those that complain about Israel:
Are you ready to give your house back to the native Americans?
