In any sales approach, the original "meet and greet" is the most crucial... if they don't like you off the bat, you got no chance of improving your situation. The rest depends a lot on the stage... are we talking door-to-door sales, telephone sales, meetings with prospective customers in an office? There are different approaches for each scenario. The most important rule to success is to always be your pleasant true self, and stay away from the B/S that all the idiots use... it doesn't work. You need to sell yourself before you can sell your product. You must attain the customer's confidence, and never under false pretences, in order to succeed. Remember, you are not selling... the customer is buying.

Avoid gimmicks and obvious sales pitches.
What you need to focus on is your client. Ask questions, lots of them. Get to understand their business, and find out what their needs are.
Then use the products you have to help them solve their problems.
That's really all anyone you sell to really wants, is for you to provide a solution to their problem.

the first thing you need to do in sales is build repour with your client.. people will buy anything from a friend. sell the strengths of your product and handle any objections right up front...no gimmicks...but you have to have a plan of attack! know the road to a sale.

Buy something to grab their attention...
ie-if you are visiting in the morning, get donuts and introduce yourself, talk to the secretary or someone you need to and grab a card then trace your card and call them...
