Open the gifts....Christmas is about more than just what they are acting like. It is a way to show love and it's family time more than anything.

Yes you do need to return the gifts that you have marked from Santa and nothing in the stockings either then that way they will know that their bad behavior is not being rewarded. Just give them some of the gifts that you have bought for them from you and hide the rest.

I was feeling the same way, they were being rude to me, to dad, to each other and didn't listen to reason or "Santa's coming" we try different tacks with them - grounding or restrictions on TV and it doesn't work.
We decided that the big things on their wish list are not an option. We are giving them the things they need like clothes, one movie each or a CD or books. We'll leave it at that and let them figure out why.
We've already been talking this holiday season about what we are giving to the Salvation Army, Red Cross, etc. We have them drop off toys for Toys for Tots and explain about giving to battered women's shelters.
Dad and I will just congratulate them on a lovely year, tell them that we love them and then go back to bed.

my two boys, ages 4 & 7 are brats also, but once Santa buys-he gives. there's nothing more exciting than seeing their expressions when they open their gifts. my oldest will be out of school for 1 full week! i say give them just 2 days out, by that time my nerves will be ready for him to go back!

I knew someone that had this problem. His kids were being really bad and he kept warning them, so on Christmas morning they had no presents. After they apologized and wrote a letter to Santa, he came the next day since he saw that they were truly sorry. It sounds kind of harsh, but he says it worked!

Make them chose a wrapped present to donate to charity - Toys for Tots or a homeless shelter. Then have them unwrap it to see what they lost. How many gifts depends on how bad they are!

I'd open them, then return one of them for bad behavior. Let them know exactly why.

You could always allow them to read this article:

Maybe it will act as incentive? :-)
