Yes, and a great counter to claims of "Intelligent Design". It evolved because it works, more or less, which is good enough. But why would a supposedly benevolent designer create something like this?

it sounds painful especially since the srticle goes on to say that the survivial rate of female hyenas drops significant after the first time she gives birth.
