I want to be emo...help me?

Question

I want to look like an emo. I am about 5'6 white dude with long brown hair (soon to be black hair) my hair isnt past my eyes or shoulders though. What to emo's wear and how do I make my hair like them? I would put a pic on here of me now but photobucket wont let me...

don't judge him..I'm sure at one time all of you wanted to be a cheerleader or the football player....Emo is the same... Emo is an attitude a way these kids live there mostly bisexual they listen to depressing music they cry for no reason they don't talk much.. There hair is easy color your hair black and if you don't have long enough hair color one3 strip in the front blond.,.. emo kids "guys" wear tight girl pants and vans mostly they wear studded belts and the usually were tight shits with band names and dirty patched up zip up sweatshirts with some buttons on them....hope that helps

Oh dear. First of all I can't believe that some of you said you should self harm to be emo....why promote that! That's awful!
Emo's aren't goths, they're not punks, they don't wear all black all the time. But there are a lot of people that have jumped on the emo bandwagon, for some reason. Some emo's seem to dwell on their depressing emotions, rub it in by listening to emotional songs, like My Chemical Romance, perfect example. But why want to be emo? You either are or you aren't but just wear the clothes you like, people will respect you for it. Someone once asked me how to be a goth and I couldn't tell them because you can't just become something which doesn't come from within. If you want to see some emos, search on Myspace heh.
I'm sorry if this rains on your parade but I just wanted to point this out, I thought it would be good for you to think about :)

As for hempdro24...You are an idiot. There are plenty of people on this earth that cut themselves and they are not Emo. I repeat, NOT EMO. Emo kids just do that for two reasons...Either they have an emotional imbalance or they're trying to pretend they have one. The latter would be the gay group of Emo's.


Now onto my answer. Their hair is usually styled like a rooster. I've heard a few people call it that. It's a short shag with long bangs in the front...typically covering one eye. I'm not going to say spiked in the back, because that's what a Punk hairstyle would be characterized as. Emo's don't do spikes. The hair is a dark color, either dark brown or black. And they may have some other color chunked in like red or blonde.

As for their clothes...I'll be honest with you. Of all the REAL Emo's I've seen and known...they shopped at Old Navy and Gap. Rarely did I see them wearing all black, like some people think they do. Instead they can be seen wearing tight jeans in a medium to dark wash and tight shirts, either polos or band t-shirts. When I say band t-shirts...I don't mean someone running around in a G&R shirt...I mean someone running around in one of those new-fangled boy bands like Dashboard and all the rest. My husband and I like to refer to them as boy bands, because that's what they are. Not to mention...they have a higher singing voice than me and I'm a girl!

Emo, and any other stereotype is more of a personality trait, but it can also be seen in music. If you want to be a certain stereotype, dressing like them alone won't do it. You have to have the mind-set like nature. Emo kids are usually mopey, not depressed. There is a HUGE difference. Depression is an illness and it's not contagious like so many young kids seem to think. I have Severe Depression and it was something I was born with that I cannot control by myself because of an imbalance in my seratonin levels, and I cannot stand it when I see these stupid kids walking around saying they're Emo because they're depressed. It's disgusting! I want nothing more than to slap them upside the head.

well theres no accounting for ur choices but if ur hair aint that long just have it black an messy pushed abit forward, emos tend to wear black clothes and converse and a studed belt. skinny jeans are a fav amongst most emo kids and poss a bands t-shirt. any reason for the image change?

I absolutely Positively LOVE emo guys but first id like to say that emo isnt just a fashion craze i think its all about the music you cant try and look emo then listen to rap or R&B it just wouldnt work lol! but hmmm show me a pic maybe i can help ya out wit ur hair or sumthin i am in cosmetology and yea ha

You can't TRY to be emo. Emo is short for EMOTIONAL. I'm emo and I'm offended by this question. The eyeliner and the cutting-yourself-thing and the black nail polish are all just stereotypes.

Dye your hair every 6 weeks, the darkest shade of black ever! Wear tight jeans that you literally have to sew yourself into, your fave band tee- obv "MCR" as they are Emo Gods! Lots of star, stripe and skull patterns, the obligatory converse in an array of colours and to finish, you have to want to cry about everything! Only then will you be the perfect Emo!

uhh well. okay, keep your brown hair. its hotter than black. :) and part way way on one side. right or left which ever is better for you i guess. so you hair goes across your face, in a swoop; your gonna need a straightener, if you want your hair to be perfect and of course you do. well for everything else. . canvas bag, black rimmed glasses, tight jeans, band shirts+ninja turtles tees :] you can get most of that crap at hot topic, so yeah. but why do you want to dress emo!?
