Teh kids and I had our new pet mice out on the couch to play and try to name them, the little white one slipped into the hide-a-bed couch, I put her friend back in the cage and took the couch apart, she was nowhere to be seen! Directly under the couch in a heating vent, that is the only place she can be. Does anyone have any ideas on getting her out? I live in a 1 story modular home so all the vens run under the house, it is also winter here 30inches of snow.... I would love to get her back before she dies and starts to smell... Thanks

If you can't get one of the humane traps down to mousey then I would recommend putting some tape on a small piece of cardboard, on a piece of string, and weighting it so that you can drop it down the vent. Put some uncooked popcorn on the tape, mice cannot resist the popcorn. Once the mouse is stuck on the tape then gently but quickly pull the stuck mouse out with the string. Maybe better is to use double stick tape on the inside of a section of a cardboard tube, of the type that is on the inside of toilet paper or paper towells and attaching a string to that.

If mousey gets stuck on the tape then take the tube apart gently so you don't tear the mouse apart. Wear leather gloves when doing this because the little rodent will probably bite you.

The extreme solution is to go into the crawlspace and take the vent apart or a least detach it to get the little *******.

The final solution is to put a cat in the vent. At least it may prevent the smell of a dead mouse in there.

I would want to try to figure out if the mouse is in there first. Maybe you could drop a microphone on a wire and then attach it to a stereo or Kareoke machine. I mean a lot of the electronics has this capacity these days. Or, try a tube attached to a stephascope. Mice can easily go through an opening as small as 3/8" in diameter so the little ******* may have fled the sceen.

Good Luck!

well turn off the heat and keep the cats away try moving the couch and put a mouse trap in the vent with cheese or peanut butter or somthing on it and watch the trap very carefully so as soon as the mouse gets caught in it u can pull it up and take it out of the trap...........good luck........or u could call some mouse hunter ppl or rodent catchers or something like tht and have them help u and just make sure they know tht u don't want it dead b/c it is ur pet

Put down a few humane mouse traps. Walmart usualyl sells a "Mouse Cube" for about $1.50 anf there is a really good metal traps at many hardware stores called Victor Tin Cat. Good bait might be a bit of apple dipped in peanut butter. Check the traps daily. Set one behind the sofa and one in a nearby spot... usually along a wall and somewhere protected.

Clean up all other food crumbs so she's forced to try the traps.

Pick up clutter in your rooms, so when she appears you can see her and have a better chance of catching her.

She'll eventually get hungry. Try putting some food near the vent. Count how many pieces you put out so you'll know if she's eaten any. Then maybe you can catch her when she comes out. Good luck!
