My Luminaries are a good new band....you can find their new single on iTunes (but the B-side 'Petrol Station Union Jacks' is the melodic track)
Jeff Buckley...still has cult status almost 10 years after his passing but is well worth a listen
Kristeen Young's a good 'quirky' act...currently touring with Morrissey

I really like Little Man Tate. Fun, jangly, funny, a bit saucy, guitar mod pop band. Lots of free downloads on the web site. Google them.

Try out [spunge] or whitmore (unfortunately whitmore split but their musicis still good.
Phinius Gage are alright too if you prefer a more rock based act or punkier (if thats a word) - The Mispelt from northampton.
Mispelt - www.myspace.com/themispelt - Parasites the best option.
[Spunge] - www.spunge.co.uk
Phinius Gage - www.myspace.com/phiniusgage
Whitmore - www.myspace.com/whitmore
Have fun.
