Weird american food: Pop tarts (never seen them here.) Count Chocula cereal. Cheese in a can. Twinkies.
Just make sure it's non-perishable, well packaged in pre-sealed containers or packages and customs won't give any trouble, I've had american 'friends' sending my kids 'care packages' with all the above for years :)
I also second the maple syrup suggestions.
Don't send electronics, electricity here is 240 volt and the sockets are different, so anything that needs plugging in would need a transformer (also skip the DVD's unless you know the recipient has a region-free dvd player, which most of us do, but just ask first)

It's not too expensive, and I don't know if they have it in Sweden, but I like the flashlights that you plug into a wall socket to recharge. Everyready has one that also doubles a nightlight. Everyready makes a couple styles, and so do other companies. Home Depot or Lowes should have it. Also, I don't know what ac outlets in Sweden are like. So you might go with a can of maple syrup form Vermont/ New York - tastes great. Good luck.
