With the exception of the occasional mid-term appointment for a Member that either died or otherwise left office, every member of Congress was elected by a public vote.

They told better lies than the other guy, or at least more believable ones.
Interesting question though. Did you realize that a guy in FL won an election, but the incoming Democratic House of Representatives is planning to refuse to seat him? Their candidate didn't win, so they want another election!
