My doctor is inducing me on Monday. I'm not thrilled about this, because I've heard medical induction is uncomfortable. I am at 39 weeks and 2 days, 1 cm dilated and 30% effaced as of last Monday (it's Friday today). Basically, I'm wondering if anyone has a suggestion for a more natural way to go into labour this weekend, so I don't have to get Pitocin on Monday? I've been walking like a maniac and eating spicy foods and pineapple, but it hasn't helped. I've tried using the breast pump, and my husband is too freaked out to have sex (he says it's "the baby's space"). I've also heard that swallowing the prostaglandins in semen has the same effect as applying it topically, but that sounds like something a man made up. :/ Any suggestions?

I was scheduled to be induced at 37 weeks because I developed toxemia/preeclampsia, but I was kind of against it and when the time came my urine protein levels and blood pressure had dropped to a reasonable level, so we scrapped that plan. They're back up to WAY higher than they were before now, so my doctor put me on bed rest and decided to induce me even though I'm close to my due date.

I won't be having an epidural, because my doctor believes I'd have a reaction to the medication, or something like that. Either way, I'm not allowed one, so all I get is laughing gas. : /

I have been induced twice and it wasn't that bad. The second time I had an epidural and it shut off. I was in terrible pain so they turned down the pitocin my son was born 45 minutes later but the contractions eased up some after they turned it down. My first pregnancy I went into labor without being induced and trust me going on your own isn't any easier. the only thing that worked for me was sex and all that did was break my water I still had to be induced

Actually, I've had 2 inductions (and am working on a third!! Pray hard!), and the pitocin is not uncomfortable. You just get it inserted into the IV you already have, and it does it's thing. The uncomfortable part is the contractions. But you can get that epidural as soon as you want it! Thank God for that. I'll be popped within ten minutes, I hope! Good luck, and Congratulations!

As a nurse.. And a mother of 3.. who was medically induced.. it's not that bad.. same as natural but just back to back pains.. (my epidural was my saving grace) and seeings how you have preeclampsia I'd just wait your time out in the bed cause your probably going to be sectioned anyway..

i was given pitocin because my labor would not progress normally. they gave me the epidural before they induced me and i did not feel a thing. all those scary stories about how painful it was, was all stories. i did not feel pain. just a little bit of pressure and it was not painful. don't be scarred of being induced. I was already dilated 4cm but then it just stopped there so I had to be induced. Good Luck!

i would seriously try the caster oil it worked for my last two children it doesnt work for everyone but i would try. take 2 tablespoons of it if you dont start having contractions by 4 hours later dont take any more, then it didnt work. You may get sick or diarrea i didnt but some people do. it is safe my doctor said i could take it and so did the pharmacists. it is perfectly safe alot of people try it. good luck hopefully youll have your baby. Contractions will probably be strong and intense but it will go by fast, i took it with my last baby 6 months ago and i had him in an hour and a half.

hot tub... sounds like you have most of it going already. See if you can get that hubby of yours to put out... tell him he aint getting any for say 3 months after birth so he'ld better get it now ;) they dont know? Or try oral or self stimulation if not... it's the orgasim that does the trick (im so jealous that you can even think about sex!)

I have heard that having intercourse helps you bring yourself into labor when you close or past due! Try that!
