She is going to buy other clothes but does not know how to convert the sizes. She is good shape and has narrow hips. What size pants should she go for? What about dresses?

She is around 5'6. And has a 36 inch inseam.
For the record, her waist is not 31 inches. More like 26 inches. She wears her jeans around her hips.

I'd say a size 6 if she has a 26 inch waist, but sizes vary from retailer to retailer and she may even be a size 4. HTH : )

she should just try differnet sizes on. I have 27 inch jeans but were a size 4 in american sizes. But i have big hips. All jeans are going to vary anyway, best to try them on to find the perfect fit, especially with jeans. I know im picky when it comes to styles and sizes and brands. Dressier pants i take a 2 or 4 and dresses the same so cant tell unless you try stuff on.

The best way to buy clothes is .... to try them on! Sometime the same size in different brands are not really the same 'size'. Size also means nothing if the style and fit of the clothing look bad.
