My period will be around my surgery date which sux! Should I start to take birth control pills?

You really need to call your attending/referring physician and ask him. There are certain drugs that may interact with the pill or vice-versa and that could be BAD on the operating table. Call immediately and ask!

Don't start a pill just to avoid your period during surgery. Docs see everything under the sun, they could care less. If you have never been on the pill it may not work to start it now anyway. Relax.

Schedule your surgery when you are not having your period. I always have.
