I have noticed that I tend to "bump heads" with Southern AAs. (except Texans) Basic cultures, lifestyles and ideologies just seem very different. I'm from Philadelphia, PA. Is this common, or is it just me? Also, I tend to not like ANYONE from the Southwest esp. New Mexico & Arizona. My experiences are from my 7yrs in the Navy.

You say there are "basic lifestyles.cultures and ideologies" that seem different" How so? I have cool friends from up North and down South, and they each have a vibe that is unique and thats what makes them special. Southern people, I've noticed believe more in family, they have a laid back attitude, but the paradox is that they work very hard to earn what they have and it isn't handed down to them at all. Some North folks I've met complain, complain, complain like they were king Tut in NY and then they come down here and live! Why are they here if they don't like it? We cool too.

I noticed this too. Some Northern Blacks especially the ones from New York City seem to always look down on the Southern ones. They gloat about New York and better it is compared to the South. And some people from the North have a lack o manners and they don't seem to appreciate Southern hospitality.I hate that stuff. I meet a lot of bad people from the North hopefully I'll meet some nice peopel too.

I don't know, but must agree with you. Southern blacks just cant seem to get their stuff together.
I am white, grew up in downtown chicago in an almost all black neighborhood, and have lived in SC for a # of years before moving back north to NY.
My experience with southern blacks is that although they're just as nice a folk as anywhere else, they seem to be content living in conditions that nobody from the north would tolerate.
I'm not sure if its the climate or just the prevailing attitude down there, but there is a huge difference.

doesn't matter. your "culture" is similar no matter where I travel in the states. it's all about violence, crime, "hitting skins," ebonics, laziness, etc.
