Besides the original, the best is VI.
A large variety of characters that you can choose from, with most, an interesting back story.
Cliche story with a slight twist toward the end.
Easy, but not as ridiculously easy as the other ones that came after it.
The last of the great Final Fantasy games (I to VI).

I think Final Fantasy 7 and 9 are the greater Final Fantasy games because in 7 you are draw into a mysterious storyline--in9 you are a guy with a tail what else do you need.

Final Fantasy VI. I believe it had the best story line and was the biggest final fantasy game to date. more gameplay hours went into that game than any other final fantasy. i would like to see them go back to mages, castles, and all that jazz. final fantasy IX was a nice treat but it was short lived.

Final Fantasy III or V. The Job/Class system makes you feel more in control of how you play in your fantasy world.

I love 7 for the story line, 5 was great as well. 10 is interesting and 10 2 is kinda odd.

Either I or VII
I is the original, and nothing beats an orginal...
VII is the rare sequel that lives up to the original, the story line is just incredible, and the gameplay is amazing..
