MIT is difficult to get into; nearly impossible actually. Students with perfect records, perfect GPAs, perfect class ranks, and perfect SAT scores get turned down by MIT every year.

Do I say this to be mean? No - I say it to make you be realistic.

So can you get in? Who knows? Maybe, but if you do not stack up to the other 1000's of "perfect" applicants, and you don't have something special to bring to the table - probably not.

According to www.collegeboard.com, the middle 50% of those admitted to MIT have Verbal scores ranging from 690-770 and Math scores ranging from 740-800. This synchs with Critical Reading and Math, basically. So you are below the core 50% range in Math and at the low end in Verbal.

That isn't to say that you can't get in, because they do accept people outside the ranges.

You'll no doubt need some top-notch academics (GPA), including high-level math courses, and at least a few AP courses, particularly in math. Assume you'd need 2-3 SAT Subject Tests, including one in Math (and one in Science if you're heading that way...)

And, of course, the requisite extracurriculars for which you have a passion or have shown leadership, etc.

If you are determined about MIT being the right place for you, you should consider Early Decision (assuming they haven't dropped it yet, a la Harvard) as ED acceptance rates are likely much higher than "regular" acceptance rates. I don't know the specifics for MIT, but look at the info at this URL (a bit outdated since Harvard HAS dropped ED, but directionally helpful...)

Make sure you visit the campus, let them know you're interested. Check with their Admissions office about where you stack up now, things you can do to improve your desirability to the school, etc.

Good luck!

MIT is large troublesome to get into, and virtually all colleges with that variety of attractiveness will require a score of over 600 on each and each and every of the SAT elements. i ought to signify retaking the try, somewhat when you're literally not searching to significant in a math route. some difficulty tests must be good besides.
