How and why did you start smoking? - Female Smokers Only?

Question

Did you start because of your boyfriend? after a break up or after a stressful event? or because your friends were smoking?

Please do NOT answer if you are not smoking or never have smoked, good for you but I am interested in smokers' answers THANKS

First cigarette was behind my Mothers church one Sunday when we were supposed to be inside...I was 11. Life got crazy after that...I started to run with a older crowd (like 18-20 year olds) and continued to smoke.
I smoked everyday until I was 33 when I found out I was pregnant...I quit on the spot & didn't touch another one until my son was 3 months old and only because it was a VERY stressful day...hubby lost his job, our vehicle got stolen, baby was not happy & the Mother In Law was beaking at me to be a better Mother...so I snapped & started again.
Now 3 years later we have finally quit for good...it has been 3 months now & I will say this to anyone I meet...don't start smoking it is addictive and will do damage to you that you cannot reverse.

Stressful event. Smoked a cigar at a party, asst smoked and gave me a smoke the next day. The rest is history. There is no more horrifying feeling than knowing you're hooked.

"attractive" and "smoker" are two words a good way to on no account be together in a sentence. You stink. Your breath stinks. When any one kisses you they are going to know what it's prefer to lick a soiled ash tray. Yeah... Real "attractive", right up there with pap smears and root canals. Discontinue smoking before it kills you. **WOW!!! I do not believe I've ever seen a query where a hundred% of the people answering said nearly exactly the equal thing! That must inform you whatever about the dependancy, nessa.

I started smoking when I was in 7th grade. I was new in town and a girl that I had become friends with smoked. Plus all my aunties and uncles smoked. I thought it must be cool. I tried it, coughed, hated it, smoked some more. Then my friend taught me how to inhale and that's all she wrote.

I'm now 36 y.o. and still smoke. I hope to quit in 2007.

We started smoking before the last grade in high school, we had a summer job and it was so cool ... we bought foreign cigarettes and acted all grown-up. It still makes me nostalgic to think about this summer.

i started because i wanted to see how it was before i knocked it. i didn't wanna be against something i didnt even give a try. so i tried it and it was nasty but tasted so nasty it was actually good. i didnt get very addicted though. i only thought about them maybe once a day. then my boyfriend and i werent doing well so i started smoking to make him mad. it worked. i'm still with him and i mainly smoke when i'm stressed. i'm trying to quit though.

My cousins pushed it on me. They smoked & expected me to. I was only 13. I just quit this August at the age of 31.

I started at the age of 14 cuase my b/f offerd me one and I took it. Now at the age of 17 I realize the importance of taking care of my body. I do not smoke anymore although my b/f still does. I am workin on his bad habit now.
