They're probably refurbished, which usually has negative connotations but doesn't necessarily indicate that the laptop is a problem. I've found that with refurbished computer parts, they usually hold up as well as brand new. After all, they've had a chance to get the kinks out.
Dell also had a major recall because of some batteries in their notebooks that were exploding. These could be the recalled models with replacement batteries.
As long as you have the same warranty as brand new, I wouldn't worry too much about purchasing one of these computers.

Some may be used. Some may have been broken ones which were fixed. And some are new. Many times ebay.com is the most cost-effective way to buy things!

These are refurbished laptops.... In other words someone already bought them and they may have had something wrong (hardware failure or even a small scratch) and they returned it to Dell... Dell the fixes them and dumps them on eBay... Or they have a Dell auction website...

Very Good Buys- Ihave bought at least 3 PC's (Dell) from eBay, you only have to worry about the Monitor being shipped.
they are off lease or they were built and there were no takers, always check out these sites for values, its true of PDA's cell phones, HP's, clothes, etc

Because Dell can absolutely guaranty, the laptop you bought is new. Also the laptops on EBay can't be guaranteed to be new.

Many times the buyer was able to secure a good deal on a laptop using coupons, special discounts, rebates, etc which you may not be using.
