I never had one virus or spyware in over nine years. I have used Avast. (Two weeks ago six trojans slipped pass avast and were not detected on a complete scan. Removed avast and installed the software below and the six trojans were found and destroyed.

Switched to the free AOL, antivirus program, powered by Kaspersky, Labs, out of Russia.

The link is below. Excellent program that uses little or no resources, plus updates auto every hour and has an excellent background scanner that works on shutdown and bootup.

Use always three or four antispyware program. Plus zonealarm firewall. You can only use one antivirus program or you will have conflict with your system Same for firewall. You can use three or four antispyware program if you have the resources.

Here are ones that I use an I have tested for embedded trojans, adware or malware hidden in the program or in the wizard used to guide you through the installation.

I've never had a virus or trojan.
I've used both Avast and AVG anti virus, they're both good. I also run 4 or 5 anti spyware programs, and a couple of other utilities. Theres a list on my blog.

I've actually not had a virus in years... (Crossing fingers) but I also try to practice safe computing. I've used the following anti-virus programs...

McAfee
Nortan
AVG

Most importantly I ensure the program I am currently using is actively scanning and downloading updates regularly. I also use anti-spamming software in combination with anti-virus.

If your a windows user it is also important to ensure updates are applied regularly once they are available.

As I use Linux, which is totally immune to viruses, spyware, malware, adware etc I never get any nasties on my PC. But when I had Windows I remember getting one or two several years ago, but can't remember their names.

My Linux distro has Shorewall, a good strong firewall, which is about all I need. The only "extra" security I pay for is a SSH (Secure Shell) tunneling service, which means I'm safe using public wireless access points - if someone tries to intercept my web comms, all they will see is a stream of fully encrypted data packets. It's very affordable - about $12 a month.

No Viruses to speak of but plenty of spyware and 1 trojan. The trojan got in when I was using McAffe. Most of my spyware problems came while I was using Norton. Now I use Avast and I have had mabye 16 spyware problems (all of which were low class) since switching.

I use AVG Free for anti-virus, and for anti-spyware etc I use Spybot S&D and Lavasoft AdAware SE. I don't use a software firewall, but instead a hardware one (although it doesn't stop outbound access aswell).

I use AVG and check regularly...it will trap virus's on your computer and put them in a "vault" where they can't work.

No virus complaints in ....years now.
