Potassium hydroxide will turn pink lithmus paper blue.
KOH is alkaline / basic and has a pH higher than 7, hence the OH- present will turn pink litmus paper blue.

No, this is about a sacred site, the remnant of the 2nd Temple, not about Orthodox Jews. Rabbi Rabinovitch also feels that it would be inappropriate for Jews to wear a tallis and tefillin in a Catholic church, so 'subservience' is a gross misrepresentation.
