This is not a question to generate anger. I am just noticing that when I read a lot of advice for gifts that many people throw in the, 'Get a bible' or 'Go see the nativity' as way of activities. They know nothing of the religious background of the asker. So why then do they do these things?

I am honestly confused as to what would cause a person to make some presumptions while doing recommendations. Can someone explain it without being derogatory to those that prescribe to faith?

some people do not know that being a good christian means to love people as they are and when giving advice we do not need to always refer to the bible or god. people like getting help and advice but do not always want relgion. I think we need to learn how to deal with each other better without hurting peoples feelings and that can be hard

There is no single answer. Each person has their own reasons, One person could be a zealot that wants everyone to believe in their way or go to hell. While another just may tell you this and this, and then that's it. (while not forcing it upon you).
For some people religion is their life, their way, their existence.
For others it's just guidelines, not meant to be take seriously but guide you by the morals.
My only concern is that their really is not big religious movie about hinduism, buddhism, or even atheism. Yet all this hype about christians. I believe that religion should not be forced on anyone, only introduced, let the person choose their way of living, not the media.

I can't speak for everyone, so I'll speak for myself. You used the word religion, I'll use faith (I'm a Christian). My faith is a part of my everyday life, so while going about my everyday life, it's only natural that my faith will shine through.

Whether we realize it or not, we put our faith or trust in things all day everyday. For example, when you got up out of the bed, you subconsciously had faith that your legs would support your weigh as you stood up so much so that you don't have to even think about it. When you sat down you didn't think twice as to whether or not the chair would hold your weight.

Well, that's how it is with me. My faith is a part of my everyday life and being that if someone is looking for an answer and I feel I can help them find the solution, I'll interject what I've learned through my faith. And if it leads them to finding their own, all the better!

I wonder the same thing.

I think maybe the people that do this are somewhat out of touch with the way the rest of the world lives. They forget there are atheists, jews, muslims, etc. among us.

Or maybe they are so excited about their own love affair with God, they figure they're doing the world a favor by sharing the love.

I know I, myself, have been known to do this same sort of thing with....music, believe it or not. I think my taste in music is so sophisticated and exquisite, I can't help but inflict it on the rest of the world--either by playing it way too loud, or by giving it as a gift--either via CD or some other format.

I have to remind myself that not everyone feels as passionately about music as I do. Maybe it's the same for religious zealots.

I think the reason a lot of people do this is because the majority of Americans are christian and most just assume that who they are talking to is to. I am not saying that is right but that is probably the reasoning behind it.

Another reason is because the person asked for suggestions and the person answering is just giving some honest suggestions.

In the end none of these people probably mean any harm by it and I wouldn't see why someone would be offended by another person just trying to help them out.

Because deep within every religion it is the duty of every follower to spread the Gospel. (or the good word) So they all feel that it is their duty to turn the rest of the world to their way of thinking. The crusades are a good example. That is why I hate organized religion. I still believe in a supreme being.

Well for myself, I am religious, and when I "interject" as you say my religion into everything is because God is my life. When I give spiritual advice, I also give scriptural reference, and I always make sure that I know exactly what I am talking about.

I dont give spiritual reference to anything I dont have knowledge of. I am a Chistian and that encompasses every part of my life, not that which I pick and choose.

So for me to "interject" religion into everything is because I feel since God made it all, He might as well get the credit for how I live my life.

i think everyone comes packaged in a worldview, religious or non-religious and each one's lives filters the world through that perspective. how can one 'not' interject their religion in decisions or life?

why do human secularists think they are 'neutral?'

i think for religious and non-religious folks, the respect for their views should be observed by finding respectable ways to advance and portray those views.

why use derogatory means of communication and action if you have such a noble cause? they shouldn't and we should call them to not do such.

I think its because they truly believe and try to make others feel the same way or ''see the light''.
I guess that spreading the ''lord's word'' they believe they are doing a good thing. If you tell them they annoy you they will paint the word ''sinner'' all over you.
I know what you are talking about.
