The Iraq Study Group said something quite the opposite: that the military has grossly underreported casualties. The press has not been reporting nearly as much bad news as they could be because the Pentagon has been hiding the real numbers.
War is Hell. Expecting good news to come out of Hell is a fool's errand.

The news media themselves do not have any idea what is going on in Iraq. Each news organization has one person there whose job is to read scripts that are faxed to him/her from New York and buy footage from independent Iraqi cameraman.
In addition to this the news is packaged in a manner that is intended to produce the highest ratings - not the most accurate picture.
This is why people who have been in Iraq generally state that the situation is much better than the news depicts.

My nephew was there and he does say that many parts of Iraq are peaceful, and that it is not really the way it is shown in the press. I have never been there myself, so I can only go by what he and his friends tell me.

According to the soldiers..
"There is not widespread violence across Iraq. There is not. Seventy-five percent of the attacks still take place in Baghdad, al-Anbar or Salaheddin (provinces). And in the other 15 provinces, they all averaged less than six attacks a day, and 12 of those provinces averaged less than two attacks a day." Military spokesman in Iraq.

Iraq is a big country. I think the Kurds have it pretty well under control. The rest of it, where the Sunnis and Shias are acting up, well that is news. We need to know what is going on and what our troops are dealing with, don't you think?

yes! most of iraq has been improved significantly my bro was there for 2 years, home now b-cuz of an injury, but ne who the news only shows it being so horrible because they cant expect us to still support this war (which i absolutely do not!) if they show a peaceful iraq, then no matter what bush says we will end it immediatly, and yes we are curtrently losing the war as well. but either way it doesnt matter because we will be pulling troops in 2008! right after bush is gone forever, because he wont do it now!

Non-American journalist report that the sitiuation in Iraq is far worse than we are being told. American news sources have been apprehensive about using the term 'civil war' to describe the state of conflict between the Shiites and Sunnis that is creating casualties almost every day there.

In fact you're correct. Becouse Kurds don't have car bombs going off in thier sector of Iraq. Most of the violence is in Bagdad and in the Sunni triangle.

I wish I knew the answer to that. But my suggestion to you, if you are really interested is to do some thorough research on it for yourself. I'm sure you can find some news sources (You'll have to also research if your news stories are legitmate) that paint a more complete picture of what's going on in Iraq. It's hard for us to know for sure, since we aren't over there.
Edit: Wow another thumbs down for an honest answer and because I didn't just fall down and wet my pants believing all the Liberal Media reports.
