With my last pregnancy, my GP refered me to an OB for my last trimester. I had hope that the doctor would be female like my GP but unfortunately it was not the case. I really did not enjoy his bedside manner. Example: every other appointment he warned me about too much weight gain. At 38 weeks he also did a procedure he called a "cervical stretching" (has anyone heard of this?) which I believe resulted in my water breaking. Due to my small pelvis, my delivery was complicated so eventually I had a cesarean and on the 25th hour I had a healthy baby. I think it also poignent to mention that he followed up with us in the hospital a couple of times and his stitching is second to none.

Do his actions in the 11th hour, the most important one at that, make up for all that time he drove me crazy? I'll be needing a OB so I could use some advice.

You should have told your GP that you prefer a female doctor. Most OBs I know warn their patients about gaining too much weight. If you have a small pelvis that led to a C-section there isn't really much the doctor could have done about that. His actions seem normal to me. My advise is to ask your friends who have kids if they would recommend their OB and then use a different doctor than the one you didn't like.

Going to labor and delivery has a lot of surprises, although you had your birth plan all outlined. I am lucky to have a female and experienced OB, but I saw her since I was still in college so that I have good relationship with her. I am sorry for your case, but if you don't feel comfortable with him, then contact your insurance and do some research on other doctors. You can also contact local mother's club to ask memebers for referal. There are plenty of female ob out there. You can also tell you GP that you want other doctor to see if she has another list of doctors you can choose. Good luck.

You should chose a doctor that makes you feel good but also is intelligent in his decisions. There are many doctors out there like that...who are great at it all!!! Doctors will not always be right there for you nor will they always make the right decisions, or what you think are the right decisions. I have not seen the same doctor at any point during my visits...it is always different. I did however...tell the office that one nurse was not allowed to touch me or my baby again. She really had no bedside manner when taking blood, and was actually grabby and forceful. I marched out, walked down the hall, and told my doctor that I had seen that day, that I would not ever agree to her taking my blood again, and if she ever put her hands on my baby after he is born, there will be problems.

I have not seen her since...but I know her name!!! Chose whom you are comfortable with...it is your body and your baby...no one can tell you who to see...except maybe your insurance!!! HAHA!!

you should use one that will make you comfortable and be nice to you as well as know what he/she is doing. you can interview a few of them on the phone or in person before you choose one and see how they make you feel. good luck. and congrats.
