Because then he'd shoot himself in the foot with it,
and give the Bears another 1.3 QB rating game.

A better question would be:
Why aren't the Bears putting Rex Grossman on the bench?
I mean come on. A 1.3 QB rating. Has anyone ever had that low of a rating before. I though the lowest you could go was in the 30's. I guess I learned something new. The Bears are not going to win the Superbowl with him as their quarterback. They really need to start thinking about using Brian Griese.

The main advantage of the shotgun formation is for the passer to obtain more time to set up in the pocket. Grossman's issues haven't been related to how much time he has, but more to poor decisions and ball control. Putting him in the shotgun would give him a better look at the defense, but it won't help him choose his targets.

It's harder to get a running game going in a shotgun. Shotgun's a mainly passing formation. If you run you're running back has a greater chance of losing yardage since he takes the handoff so far behind the line of scrimmage. Grosman works better in this formation because he doesn't handle pressure well at all. The Bears have been in tighter games so they haven't needed to use at a lot. If they get behind by a couple of touchdowns in the playoffs I think you'll see it.

I thin kit is because they are trying to be more focused on the run last year they played the shotgun 22 times. Also why cahange your game plan if your winning games. This isn't what I believe but its probably whats going thru Lovie Smith's mind.

what i want to know is why they aren't putting him up against the best defense in the league during practice? why are they giving him 3 days to look at film? we have the resource of the best d in the nfl...let them kick his @$$ into shape (within reason, of course). He's got to work it out on the field, and not during real games. what better plan than to have him up against the real D[eal]?
btw: i don't think they can trust him in ths SG formation....
correct me if i'm wrong, but when they did use it, it didn't work out, did it?

well grossman is better than he has played.....this is his first full season as the starter and he is going through the usual growing pains. he'll get better no matter what formation they put him in.
