That would depend upon what is leaking. A minor leak in a radiator or heater core can sometimes be TEMPORARILY stopped with a solution such as Barr's Stop Leak, but if you have a leaky water pump, hose, head gasket etc: you need an immediate and appropriate repair. Do not run straight water in a newer (after about 1990) car as they really need the anti-corrosive additives in anti-freeze.

Depending upon where the leak is, they do make good products to fix them. If you have a leak in the radiator, you can get a radiator stop leak. If the leak is a cracked block or a leaking head gasket you need a leak fix designed specifically for those problems. If the leak is actually a leaking hose or frost plug, you will want to get those fixed. Products from a company call BARS are the best available.

For a small leak crack an egg into a WARM raidator...I know it sounds weird but it will work. Don't open a blistering hot radiator as you will be burned.
For large leaks you have to replace the whole thing. Also check your waterpump. Sometimes it looks like one leaking and it's really the other.

most stop leaks only last for a short time-- i would suggest that you find the leak and have it fixed-- radiator-- water pump etc-- most leaks can be found by putting pressure into radiator system using a pump that will pressurize the water jackets and other parts of cooling system
