A lot of this depends on check points in the cell cycle. There is a check point at the completion of the S phase which makes sure all the DNA has been replicated before continuing and there is also a checkpoint at the spindle formation in Prometaphase to make sure the chromosome is attached to a mytotic spindle from each end of the cell.

Meiosis. It is the exact process which is meant to reproduce the new generation which is genetically correct. It also goes through two divisions. One is into two daughter cells. and each one divides into two again. So after meiosis. there are 4 daughter cells.
