well, today there was a 2 hour delay for school, and my parents had already gone and left when i got up before i knew about the delay, so i decided to go and take my dog on a walk, since i was all ready for school, and i had some extra time, so when i came back i dropped the leash to take my shoes off, but i slipped and my left wrist cought me and that was the only thing that hit the ground (my heels were barley on the floor) and so when my mom called to see if we were all ready for school, i told her about it (shes a nurse) and she said to ice it and see if it still hurts after school, so instead i took an ace bandage and wrapped it, now after school, my wrist still hurts just as much and no one is home besides my brothers, how do i know if my wrist is sprained or borken? do u know how to take the pain away without drugs?
just plain help, plz

Do as your mother said, Ice it. Ice will help to keep the swelling down. Is it very swollen? Sometimes a sprain can hurt worse than a break, so it could just be sprained. Usually with a break you can't move it at all, so chances are, if you can move it, it's only sprained or badly bruised. Just ice it for about 15 minutes, then take a short break, then ice it again, and keep repeating this. And listen to your mother and ICE it. Believe me it helps, then go to the hospital later and have it x-rayed just in case. Sometimes you can still move it when it's broken, and sometimes when it's broken you can't tell, so just to be sure go to the doctor. Good luck, and i hope it feels better soon.

Take your mom's advice. Whether or not it's sprained or broken, this will relieve any swelling, and ease the pain better than any other method besides pain relievers. Unwrap it. You will need to have it x-rayed. I had a very serious break in my wrist last summer. I let it go for 4 days before having it x-rayed because I could move it, as well as my fingers, and I thought it was sprained although it hurt very badly. When I finally did go to the Doc, I found out that it was fractured in several places. Wait for your mom to come home, and she will know what to do. Good luck!

Listen to your mother. Take the bandage off, wrapping it will keep it hurting. Ice ice and ice. Try some Tylenol or Advil. Have your mom check it tonight when she gets home. If it was broken, you would know (you would have gone crazy w/ pain by now) so it's most likely a bad sprain.

The only thing you can do is try to not move it. If you are ok with taking tylenol take some, but call your mom first and tell her what your pain level is before you take it. Just DONT MOVE IT.
If you can still move your fingers, it is probably just sprained or something along those lines, if it is swollen then keep ice on it. But until your mom gets home there is nothing much you can do.

Squeeze your wrist to see if you feel places in your wrist that doesn't have a bone, or if you can wiggle your finger/hand you didn't break it. If you can't, it's broken and you should call your doctor, or your mom, she'll know what to do. Take an IB Profien and put some ice on it. Also, keep that bandage so it's a temporary fix until your parents get home. ;-)

at worst its a strain. a sprain or a break would cause swelling, and a break would also feature bruising. if you cant take ANY drugs (like not even any advil) then try using a topical heating rub like rub a535 or deep heat. keep all stress off it and try keeping it on the arm of the couch or something so it stays a bit high up. if you can take advil, i would suggest taking 2 advil, and maybe putting a bit of ice on it. the key to healing it is to rest as much as possible, otherwise you'll just exacerbate the injury.

listen to your mom and put some ice on it. That will help with the pain. When she gets home let her look at it. If you can move your wrist it is not broken.

You need to put ice on it as your mother suggested. Put some icecubes in a ziploc bag and apply it to your wrist. Also take two aspirin to help with inflammation. Hopefully when your mother gets home she can determine wether or not you need to go and get an xray.
