hello hamsters generally live for 3to 4 yrs. just keep him/her on a good diet and clean fresh water daily and you will have a happy heathly might i say cute) hamster. the smaller the rodent usually the less yrs they live. hope this helped! good luck. ..julie

The approx. life of a typical hamster is 2 years... than you just get yourself a new one or opt for a better pet than a rat looking thing.

2-3 years, my duaghter has had one for a year and a half now and I am not looking forward to the day when Cookie no longer "wants to play"!

Until they all eventually kill each other... how ever long that takes. That's what mine did. Crazy little furballs... they fought with each other all damn day and night, keeping me from sleeping.. I tried separating them, into 2 per cage... it was a nightmare. Their cute little name doesn't fit the little bastards.
