First accept yourself. You cannot expect to be happy in life if you are not happy with yourself. Then just let go. Just live life to the fullest every day and never waste a moment because one moment that you spend being sad is another moment you will never spend being happy. Count your blessings every night, even if it's just realizing how lucky you are to have a job, or to have a house to live in rather then a box on the street.
Do things for yourself once in awhile. Don't just cater to other people (unless that makes you happy). Put a smile on and enjoy life because just being alive is the greatest gift of all.

I heard that 'being happy is when you are appreciating something.' I also heard that it helps to lower the definition of happiness.
So, for example, when Mr. A plays the lottery and wins £10 he is not happy because it's only £10 and he'll spend it soon. He wanted to win a bigger amount.
But when Mr. B plays the lottery and wins £10, he is happy because he at least won £10 when he could have just lost £1. And he thanks that it happened, when it could not have happened if he was not lucky.
What I am trying to say is, that you can look at the same situation from the different angle, but if you are too greedy or ambitious, and don't understand that you are actually lucky to have something, and don't appreciate it, it's difficult to be happy.

Preface: If this is an ongoing condition, consult your physician. Perhaps it's a chemical imbalance that can easily be treated. We are born with a unique body & chemistry, & genes at birth. Birth doesn't come with the 'Happily Ever After' certificate. That being said:
1. Hobbies. An individual without hobbies has a dependent mind for entertainment, often getting bored, not knowing what to do with themselves. Hobbies may involve group activities that provide a social network of people with similar interests.
2. Humor. Engage in laughter and get your endorphines going. There's nothing like a good laugh to get you feeling good. Surround yourself with fun, productive, positive people & good things will happen.
3. Set goals. Achieving goals, no matter how big, carry a sense of accomplishment, when reached. It could be reading a collective work of writing, physical activity, creating something, fixing things, etc.
4. You may have to sit down and make a list of what you enjoy doing. See if anything on the list falls in a work category. That would be the best.
5. Recognize your talents. People often do not give themselves enough credit, when they excel at something. What they do is let the loud, confident, less qualified person shine, while they sit back and settle for second best. Recognize your talents and don't be afraid to show them. Others will see for themselves your value and initiative.
Good Luck and Warm Wishes.

Happiness is not a destination, it's a state of mind and "changing your mind" can happen in an instant. Understand that every moment is a new moment. Past and Future are as immaterial as shadows and don't deserve the amount of thought most of us spend on them. Unburden yourself from the crushing weight of the past. Unbind yourself from fear of the future.
Forgive yourself.
Know that no one and nothing is above you or beneath you.
Remember that even the rich and famous commit suicide.

Happiness is a decision, not a destination. When you wake up in the morning, you choose to be happy, or you choose not to. It's a decision we make a hundred times a day. We can choose to turn away from thoughts that make us unhappy, thoughts that don't produce anything constructive. We can't control the things that happen to us, but we CAN control our reaction to them.
So if you want it, choose it. It really is that easy.

happiness is one of the things which comes from inside, when ever the inner order of things disturbs it affect our inner peace which result in irritation, frustration, anger, this all adds up the confusion and our happiness is lost.
We Begin our search for happiness from outside thinking that all the materialistic things are the cause of our happiness, but this never helps, only it makes us more frustrated.
Happiness comes from peace, satisfaction.
Take pleasure in what you do, respect yourself, sometimes say to yourself " i am important"
and try to be who you are.

Happiness comes from within. Examine what makes you sad then do the opposite. Go out with people-don't stay home and vegitate, learn that others may be as scared to meet you as you are to meet them. Learn something to brighten your life and others-stained glass, cooking, who knows the sky's the limit.

Hey Horseride,
Don't worry, be happy. Only you can make yourself happy! Put a smile on your face, even if you have nothing to smile about.
