Don't know. I liked Gay Deceiver from Heinlein's Number of the Beast--that was a badassed vehicle with a woman's voice. It does seem more natural--I thought cars and watercraft were all supposed to have female names, and Kitt sounds like it is short for Katherine.

That's easy. When a man gives orders and direction he sounds like he's giving solid advisement. When a woman gives orders and direction she sounds like she's being a nag. That's why the producers of the show gave the car a male voice.

Well, if they game KIT a female voice, you would be asking why they didn't give KIT a male voice. They had to choose one or the other. Also, a male voice sounds tougher

They were aiming at the families as their main viewers. They probably didn't want to make it too sexy by having a female voice for KIT

No, I never wondered. I guess it's just one of those things I've not put too much tought into! LOL My guess tho, is that the reason it was a male voice is b/c IT WAS WRITTEN IN THE SCRIPT THAT WAY!!!!! The producers decided that's what they wanted???

maybe the producers were afraid if she were female there would be too much sexual tension between her and david; i mean they were very close and kit was always predicting what david would do next. plus, i think it appealed to female viewers that the 2 protagonists were male.
