While the constitution protects individual rights, it can be amended if there is enough popular demand to reject or destroy some of those rights. It could also be argued, what greater individual right could there be than to decide his/her own rights regardless of a piece of paper.

Can't you have a dictatorship by more than one person. The Soviet Union and PRC have been described as dictatorships but they were led by a single party, not exclusively by a single person.

If 4 out of five people tell you not to do something then do not do it if you want to get along with them .The fact that they passed a law is only more injurious to your violating the will of the majority .
I do not feel that majority rules in a free country .
Freedom means the opportunity to do things in a different way and the right to make ones own choices .If what you do does not physically harm another person and they have the opportunity to avoid you ,then you have every right to pursue that which makes you happy .
I would not be happy with a billboard at the top of my street advertising the local porno shop but I can move If it bothers me .That does not mean I pass a law stopping the ad . Me and my neighbors are free to by the land and prevent you from placing anything on it we do not approve of .
But passing laws to prevent you from it is wrong .
I can see your point that democracy is majority rule at the expense of the minority and that is wrong . the laws need to allow freedom not end it because a few people wish to make the world over in there image .For a long time gambling was frowned on but with indian reservations opening legal Casinos everywhere the rich had to scramble to change the laws and build there own river boats and compete for the billions of dollars gambled away each year .
I propose that we tax gambling to pay for welfare . If you have that much cash to toss away then why hand it over to the government to build bombs and pay for the military .Our state lottery was suppose to enhance the education budget .
The 600 million raised in the first year that went to education was followed by a 600 million dollar budget cut the following year so we where back to square one with funding education .
The same dollars got spent only the revenue source changed .600 million came in from lottery proceeds while 600 million went out to fund police fire new town halls and city buildings .
Why is it that we keep getting screwed by the government .
Because it is run by the people . those people with the money to report and influence the elections control who we vote for .SO simple but no one cares . Election reform is a back burner issue to can Gays get hitched legally .I care less about what you do for kicks then I do how much we spend on war .
this paints me as a liberal when in fact I am quit conservative .I am for waiting periods on hand guns and rifles .You go down weeks before a hunting trip to purchase your hunting license why not order your gun a week ahead of time . Seems if you need a gun that badly it can only be for the wrong reason .
Buy a gun when you are young and then at thirty if you feel the need to shoot it you have it .
The rich always have guns .
Every home almost without fail has a gun cabinet at the primary residence or the cabin .
Why should only the rich have guns is my question .OH well i get away from the answer so easily .
Yes democracy is a dictatorship run by the minority look close I got you . It is a dictatorship run by the minority who have all the money .

You are free to look at it this way. By agreeing to the rule of the "majority" beforehand, you relinquish the right to be except from the law. Democracy is just a workable solution of sorting things out between different people by setting out some ground rules that everyone adheres to.

Its called majority rules. Think what this country would be if you could exclude yourself from its laws. Free ride for murder, drugs, DWI, sex offenses and think if you were on the receiving end of these crimes and could not punish or have the other person who raped your daughter arrested and charged, because they were excluded from that law.
I will take a majority rule democracy over a dictatorship any time.

You can say so.
Democracy is not a perfect system, especially when the country is full of unintelligent people. If these people makes up rules which makes your life really uncomfortable, you have no other choice but to follow them. Good luck on living with the others!

I think maybe you don't understand the meaning of "majority rule."
A dictatorship is when ONE person rules everyone. So, to answer your question, no.

It certainly can be...that's why most democracies have laws protecting certain minority rights that the majority CANNOT vote away.

Maybe. It is exactly this question which necessitates a checks and balances system of government, with defined rights for the citizens.
