There probably are a lot of things he/she can do...but I generally avoid business that are run by people who are not fair or nice. It's called "voting with your feet", when they are bad news, don't give them money (or time and attention), right?
Also, be sure you know all before rushing to judgement, I've know an awful lot of people who tell only part of the story to show themselves in better light (it can be hard for some to admit they mishandled a situation). It's a pity to get caught up in something that isn't spot on...you know? If you know them well, or were there at the time, you are probably safe in the issue, but most business' are aware of the danger of legal recourse and are careful to give warning and put it in writing before taking such an action. Particularly with the "job related" injury issue going here. I assume there was a workers comp issue going. It can look like harrassment if they are not being fair. Usually when they ban someone, there was confrontation.
If it is a misunderstanding, I'd ask to meet with the manager and/or owner and if young enough bring a parent as witness and support and see if you can straighten it out, or write to the owner and present my side of the issue.
The fact is, if they are being awful about it, future contact maybe more of the same. I'd not go back to work for them, I'd look for someplace healthier. Leopards generally don't change their spots, especially when they are in power and don't have to and most bullies never change. If they are really out of line you can check with your local government for employee rights offices, file a complaint and protect future employees by at least getting some notice to the situation.

Best thing to do would be to consult an employment attorney -- a consultation is free. If the firing and subsequent banning was from not being trained properly to do the job, there may be a claim.
But I suspect that there is more to the story than you've shared because I have seen plenty of people fired in retail and few are banned from the store without there having been something serious that went down.

So, I imagine the person was fired, right? Was there criminal charges against the person? Was there a negotiated resignation where the store said we want you to resign and we will give you some money and you agree never to set foot in one of our stores again? Or did the store just fire him/her and say never come back to our store again?
If it was the latter, then that is not legal. The store may fire the person for cause but they may not restrict their freedom and, further, they have no means of legally enforcing such a threat.
However, if the threat was part of a negotiated resignation then it would be legal.

There is the civil libertys union and there is also a state office in each state that handles discrimination things like this. You can find the number by contacting your local court house or looking in the phone book. The store has the right to refuse service but it doesn't have the right to be prejudice.

If you were the owner of the store and it was your money that was being lost due to someone giving out to many discounts, I am sure you would feel differently.
