The factors include, type of ship, type of cargo, size of ship, draft of ship, contract, and customer. Container ships go to container terminals, Car Carriers go to auto terminals, Oil Tankers go to Oil terminals, Orange Juice tankers to juice terminals . Bulkers go to cargo specific terminals i.e scrap, gypsum, agregate, lumber, coal, grain docks etc..
