History is cyclical. I would be very surprised if anyone thought that the US would remain top dog forever. It just doesn't happen that way. In the past, it has been inner decay allowing the overthrow of empire. In the future I can see an economic overthrow of the US's pre-eminence. Shrinking natural resources due to overuse will lead to the increase of imports, causing a vast increase in shortfall on balance of payments. I don't see the US being destroyed by invaders, the British Empire wasn't, it was largely given away. Nowadays, economics will be the factor that puts the final nail in the coffin of an empire.

All civilisations have fallen. Your trying to equate The United States of America as an empire brings in many false assumptions.
It is a fact that all civilizations have fallen from the first Mesopotamian city state to the Roman Empire have fallen and yes, eventually what we know as western civilzation will eventually be an archeological dig is quite likely.
The USA is simply a powerful nation amongst many that is swimming in the pool we call global trade.
What you should be asking is if civilzation as we know it today is truly the most effective way to live and continue for prosperity.
Read the book Ishmael.
It may put things in better perspective for you and stop listening to the anti-american rhetoric.

I don't think that the U.S.A. will ever fall in the near future, but a civil war, revolution, or some kind of coup is not out of the question... Just like Rome went from Republic to dictatorship to Empire, a change in America's government is ENTIRELY possible, and before the end of this century for that matter...

1. You know that old saying — HISTORY REPEATS ITSELF.

2. When a country, the size of Iowa, tells the USA to go 'fly a kite' on nukes, I'd say it's probably safe to say that there is a big invisible backup crew of bigger countries behind the curtain ready to stand and deliver.

3. Technology is replacing humans, right down to high end positions. When technology disengages people from the workforce, that just x's-out people who would be spending money to fuel the economy. 'Lay Offs' = red flag.

4. Megatrends is an interesting book, because their firm read newspapers from all over the world, during WWII. They could tell how well a country was doing by it's body count listed, economically, etc. Megatrends paid attention to the obvious 'red flags'. Worthwhile reading.

Good Luck and Warm Wishes.

Actually the USA is not considered an empire. If you read the Bible there have been 4 major empires or world powers. A fifth is yet to come and will consist of the European Union and I believe the USA will ultimately join in this group but will not be a major player since the Bible does not specifically mention this country. By the way, all prophecies in the Bible have come true as foretold except those yet to be fulfilled.

We find ourselves in a unique situation. Never before has a nation risen so far and has a lifestyle the like of which has never been seen before. Will we tumble? Certainly, but it won't be far. No one wants to slide back into barbarism and we have institutions that will stop too far a fall. It will be much like the British Empire, we will cease to a super power is all.

Unfortunately, history indicates yes. Usually empires are destroyed from within. Naturally, such situations can be prolonged; however, inevitably decline sets in wherein personal interests exceed the seeking of the public or social good.
