Yes 12 Volts is the supply voltage, however 700 mA refers to the maximum amount of DC current that can be drawn from the adapter. Any current draw over 700 mA will either damage the unit or blow any internal circuit protection such as a fuse. So the current draw (not power) must be under 700 mA. It should actually be about 70% of that to allow room for spikes and surges.

The are various adapters, what you'll need to determine is what type of connector you need and wheter the center pin is (+) or (-). Typically the center pin is (+). Stores like Radio Shack sell adapters that come with various adaptable connectors.
