You need an s-video out or tv-out cable, depending on the port on your computer, and the port on your t.v.

Something that nobody mentioned yet was that in addition to actually connecting your cable from your laptop to your tv, sometimes you have to activate the correct output. For example, on my laptop, I have to hold the function key (Fn) and press F5. This brings up a list of 5 options (LCD, CRT, TV, and two combinations of the preceding) that I can scroll between by repeatedly pressing the F5 key (without letting go of the Fn key). In addition, my laptop has an irritating "feature" that will not allow the change to take place if I have any video software (Windows Media Player, Quicktime, whatever) actually running. So I have to change to the setting I want before starting up my video player software. Also note that computer screens are generally much higher resolution than televisions, so the desktop will look pretty blurry when viewed on your TV. Note that this is not a problem when you do video playback because the video doesn't need the higher resolution to look good like the desktop does. Hope that helps.

Yes if youe laptop has a way to get video out. Some laptops have an S-video out that you can hook up to the tv. Otherwise you can use the monitor out jack on the back of the laptop and run it through an RF modulator that converts it into something the TV can detect, unless your tv has an input for a monitors cable (some higher end tvs do)

Most laptops have a "video out" connector. You need to determine what kind of connector that is. It will either be "S-Video" which is round with several pins or a "composite" connector which is yellow and round with one large center pin.
If there is no video out connector you will need to get a 15 pin D to s-video or composite adapter cable and use the VGA out connector instead.
Once you know what kind of video connector you have, look for a similar connector on the back of your TV. Look for similar connectors labeled "video in" and buy either an RCA video cable for composite video or an "S-Video" cable for S-Video. If you can't find matching connectors, you will need an adapter. Radio Shack sells these. It's important to get the right "gender" connectors so pay attention to whether pins on the S-Video connector go out (male) or there are holes (female) and get the adapter that will work with the connector on your TV and laptop.
Once you get the video hooked up, you'll need to get the sound from your laptop to the TV as well. Look on the laptop for the "headphone / audio out" jack. It's usually light green. You will need a 1/8" Stereo Mini Plug to RCA adapter cable. You will connect the red and white plugs on this cable to the corresponding sockets on the back of your TV. They should be near the video jack you connected earlier.
This all assumes that your TV is fairly modern and has video and audio inputs. If not, you can use your VCR and feed it through to the TV or you will need to get an RF modulator that will convert the video and audio to an RF signal that you can connecto to the antenna input of your TV.
Some laptops do not send the video to the video out connector unless it detects that it is connected to a TV while starting up. If you don't see the video signal on the TV, reboot the laptop and check the display settings and make sure that you have enables the correct video out connector.

Yes, you can do this as long as you have a card that supports it. I suggest using an S-Video cable, in which you can either connect directly to a television with s-video capability, or as long as the television has the yellow RCA jack for video input, you can purchase a small inexpensive box called a "RF Modulator" which will take the input of the s-video cable and convert it to RCA output to your television. Good luck!

Sure you can... If your TV has a VGA input (most Plasmas and LCD's do) and your laptop has a VGA out (This is a monitor cable output) then plug in that way. Otherwise try buying a video output card for your laptop like this one here: http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=422949&CatId=1430

I hooked up my g/f's with an S-video cable. Your devices will both need to have S-video sockets on them. Seem to remember that a 6 footer was like $10. :-)=

You need a video card with RF or s-video outlets. They cost a bit but you can hook up stuff to your computer and vice versa. good luck.
