i've been diagnosed with mono... about 2 weeks ago. my symptoms have been for about 3 1/2 weeks and they supposedly only last for 3-4. my doctor put me on steroids though, to keep the swelling down, so i dont know if i'm better or not. i'm worried though, because i was active before i came down with mono and i'm afraid that i'm going to lose all of my athletic ability by the time i get completely well. has anyone here had mono and when did you start exercising again?

You have to talk to the doctor about that. Mono enlarges your spleen--that's why you are on probably Prednisone for the inflammation. Your spleen can be fragile for a while even after the other symptoms are gone. Please talk to your doc.

Talk to your doctor about when to start up again. With me, i had a really really bad case of it and i was sick for a year. I exercised sometimes, but usually i was too exhausted. It depends really on how you feel. If you feel up to it, do it, but don't do anything too vigorous, like no contact sports that could hurt you. Because if you hit your spleen, since it's swollen, it can rupture. Mono is a tough thing, sometimes it goes away fast, within 2 months, other times it lasts for over a year. I had mono for a year, and then the exhaughstion didn't go away for about another 6 ish months. So just do what you can, but DO NOT PUSH YOURSELF. My sister did and she ended up just getting sicker. So do what you can, but be careful. I hope you feel better soon!!

I have never had mono and wasn't aware you were't allowed to exercise. Your doctor should of gave you some recommendation. If you can't exercise like you want you can try some other things. Stretch out some everyday, drink lots of water. Flex you muscles often and lightly exercise if your allowed.
By now you are already feeling the effects of being out of shape. It doesn't take long at all before you start to lose your fittness. Eating good and keeping positive should help. When you are allowed to exercise it maye take a month or two to get back in shape. Your first priority is to get better. Don't hurt yourself doing something your not suppose to be doing. It won't take long to get back in shape and kick some butt in athletic activities.
