A friend just recently learned that her son is made to set on the boarding/unloading steps of the school bus while transporting children to school as a disciplinary action for her (overly active) kindergartner. This sounds like a very dangerous and maybe unlawful decision by the bus driver. I've looked around on the internet and have'nt been able to find any rules or saftey laws. Anyone know where I might find som info?

yes it is unlawful and bad judgment on the bus drivers part your friend needs to call the superintendents office and ask for whoever is in charge of transportation if that doesn't work talk to the superintendent and if that doesn't work school board meeting that is the chain of command your friend should take to get this resolved if none of that works i suggest driving the child herself the child as punishment be made to sit on the front seat but not where the child's life would be put in danger

YES! That is not a safe seat. The children cannot be past the line near the driver.

Check with your state's DMV website. It should have a section on that.

You should first tell your friend to tell the school's principal.

I drove a bus for 11 years and yes, I was trained and had to take courses every year to keep the license.

This is very dangerous and the driver should be reprimanded. I would call the school board to report, and don't rest until the issue is addressed. Your friend should be very angry, as this action could cause her son serious injury or death in case of an accident.

If the child will not stay in his seat and behave, the steps may be the safest place for him.

We had a kid like that on our bus. He refused to stay in his seat and constantly ran up and down the aisle. One day a deer jumped in front of the bus, and the driver had to slam on the breaks. The little brat smacked his head into a metal bar and needed stitches.

Kids must learn that there are consequences for not following the rules. I'd vote to have him kicked off the bus, and let mommy and daddy figure out how to get him to school.

Yes that is VERY dangerous!! I think you should contact the school board and let them know what is going on. They should be able to handle that situation. Good luck

Yes it is, it puts the child in unnecessary danger. Go through the proper steps to have the child banned from your bus. But first go to his parents and let them try to correct his behavior.

This is very dangerous. Call the principal, superintendent of education, school board, whoever it takes to report this driver.
