I know that if the mother smokes crack while pregnant, that is harmful. But is there anything in the sperm? Is there any chances for birth defects ? Im very concerened. For those of you who have knowledge, please respond. Thanks.

in males, the cocaine in crack may attach to the sperm causing damage to the cells of the fetus.

This is a bad situation, first off you need to support your husband and get him help (no matter how you get it). No child needs to be in that kind of enviroment.

There is a possibility of his sperm being effected by it, but chances of you having a normal child is very high especially when you do not do any of that.

Birth defects from the sperm are unlikely in that situation usually from what i hear it can effect the mans sperm count and things like that. But I wouldn't be too concerned, just take care of yourself.

Talk further about this with your doctor, they can explain more. Also look it up on the internet do some research.

Yes that is definitely something that you should mention to your doctor when you go for you first appointment!~! The lifestyle of both the mother and the father has an effect on the child!~! You may be the one carrying the child but it was his sperm which in turn means that also his blood running through the baby!~! To lower the risk of birth defects, you should just make sure hes no longer doing anything around you!~! But make sure that you let your OB know whats going on that way he can watch out for signs of anything going wrong!~! Just be extremely cautious and let the father know what a risk his drug use is to the child!~!

I am not sure if the sperm has anything to do with it, but I do know that having a father around who does smoke crack on and off, and cocaine can have a huge effect on the family and the baby. My advice would be get him in rehab immedietely, and try to quit this thing as soon as possible. I know it's an extremely hard thing, but he has to do it, so the baby can grow in a great environment. That can be so painful. I'll pray for you! God Bless

I would be just as concerned about raising a baby with someone that has a drug problem, Im not sure of the affect it will have on your baby, you should be honest with your doctor and talk to him/her about it. And try to get help for your husband now, before the baby gets here. Im not trying to be critical, I have a very good friend that has had a drug problem in the past and understand that it happens, and it can be hard to beat.

I don't think it will affect the baby, unless his sperm were damaged from other drug use, but while I applaud you worrying about the baby, I worry about the child being raised by a drug addicted father...support your husband any way you can in his efforts to get off the crack.

I am in the exact same situation , im now 29 weeks pregnant and so far our babies health is 100 % normal , I worry myself every day about this (im sure my added stress is more harmful to him , then his dads crack addication) Dont listen to people that say divorce your husband, its a big battle to win and hopefully thing will get better and he can fight this and be productive in your childs life.

and for the people telling her she is a whore, and stating the child will find the crack pipe, more then likley he disapears to smoke crack in a crack house , i dont think she every once said he does it at home. and rehab only can do so much its a very hard drug to beat,

There are a lot of reasons to be concerned for one second hand smoke can effect the baby invetro and after the baby is born, the second is financial responsibility, and then the effects of the partner that is recovering or trying to are going to be temperamental.
Good luck on this one,Put your child first.

If you are around someone smoking crack and breathing the air around the drugs you are using the drug though not actively and it can affect your fetus. Stay away from him when he is using. Find a drug treatment program for him and suggest he check himself in if he wants to be a father to his child.

Yes you should be worried. For more reasons than just one- being there could be something wrong with your baby, and second being what kind of father would this be to your child? Go get prenatal care asap! And be sure to tell them this, they must know in order to treat your baby if needed.
