i have membership in a national nudist group so i'll be giving you a slanted view:
public nudity can be offensive to other people and, therefore, should be banned. being caught in the act should be punishable by a steep fine.
nudity at a nudist resort is perfectly ok. i enjoy being naked as it gives me a sense of freedom and equality between everyone who is there. i don't go there for arousal or voyeurism; i go exclusively to enjoy being nude.

I'm a 21 year old girl from Long Island (NY) and have been going to the nude beach here for the past 4 years. It's a legal nude beach and very popular throughout the summer. It's my favorite place to get naked, and the people there are pleasant and cool with nudity in appropriate places.
There's a clothed beach nearby, and many times people from that beach will walk through the nude area (it's over a mile long) out of curiousity to see what's going on. Some are voyeurs to be sure, and others are probably pervs getting off on the naked girls, but most are just curious and want to see for themselves what a nude beach is all about. Sometimes they'll take off their clothes and keep walking through the beach topless or naked, and many times they come back with their things and spend the rest of the day naked at "our" beach.
My point is that at least here on Long Island (NY) the popularity of nudity on the beach is growing every year, especially among young people. Also, here in NY it's legal for a girl to be topless anyplace a guy can be, so many girls are now enjoying "regular" beaches without a top. Frequently, other girls will take off their tops as well after seeing bare boobs on a regular beach...no big deal.
Hope this is helpful, at least as it pertains to my corner or the world.
Bare hugs...

Everyone advocates going to a nude beach, but unfortunately there are too few of them and they're often very remote locations. If this is the feeling of modern Americans, why not ask legislators to designate portions of popular, accessible beaches as nude areas?
I certainly don't have a problem with nudity, but I can respect the fact that not all of you share that view. I therefore choose to limit my freedom to certain areas so as not to offend you. Please be considerate of us when you are reviewing laws and at the ballot box! We'll thank you for it!

It is against the law in most of US... there are some restricted areas where it is alowed... but concidering the "swimwear" of most... it is every where.... I have been to "family" nude beaches in the Mediteranian and did not see any thing bad going on... but just up the beach at the sexy swimwear beaches there was a lot of sexual acting out... depends on what is being done... if you want sex, keep it to yourself not in public...nude or otherwise.

DON'T DO IT!!! go to a NUDE beach. We have children and may not be open to that lifestyle and I don't want to see it either.
With public places you err on the side of caution.
No topless, no bottomless!!!!!
Many beaches have nude areas designated though.

Hahaha.. Personally, i think there should at least be some kind of system where people have to ask to be naked on public beaches. Like, there should be judges who look at people naked after they've filled out their applications. If they look good, go for it. However, if you don't even like to look at yourself naked, chances are good that none of us want to either.

I think that it should be allowed on beaches where it's a private setting and people know to expect it ahead of time.

Not on public beaches... there are families there and it could be offensive to some people. That's why there are nude beaches. Go be nude there.

You all can just call me an old fuddy-duddy but I see nude beaches to be just one more sign of our decline into immorality & decadence. Whatever happened to modesty?

I think it's fine. I would rather just stick to a nudist one though, wouldn't like being naked in front of kids :-S
