there are certainly parallels, like; its liberalism making it open to attack from within, and allowing the spread of crazy ideologies

Actually it depends on your interpretation of the term empire. In my mind all nations are imperialistic by nature. That is to say nation states will do whatever actions necessary to preserve and increase their influence in the world, whether the action be through soft power(foreign aid, humanitarian actions) or through hard power(military force, economic sanctions). The term empire, in most people's minds, is connotated with dictatorship and territorial acquisition, and in this sense it does not apply to America. I would argue that these were merely symptoms of a nation's quest for power aka means to an ends. In today's world there is no need to acquire territory to maintain influence. What the Romans took by force, America acquires through free trade agreements, and military outposts worldwide. The end result of either is the same which is the maintenance and aggregation of world power. Despite their flaws, it has also been argued that both America and Rome have contributed significantly to Western civilization.

No. The roman empire administered and enforced a tax on people globally, we trade. The roman empire was interested in conquering and occupying new lands in order to tax people, America is not interested in occupying new lands. Believe me, everyone, INCLUDING BUSH, would love to get the hell out of the middle east, and let Iraqi people govern themselves.
The U.S. is interested in creating a pro- U.S. environment, and building stable, free market economies, so we can trade with them.

There are SOME parallels, but to say they are "a lot like" each other is a serious stretch. Contrary to current appearances, you don't get to be in charge in the US simply beacuse of the family you are born into, and even the most ardent supporters of the encumbent leaders don't think they are gods!

Yes. But you find much about it because the history has been revised, books censored and the search engines altered by liberals and The Homosexual Agenda.
