I've tried the silicone ones but my son hates them and it seems to me that they let the milk out much faster and he gags and gets a lot of gas from them. I am replacing the rubber ones constantly (like once a month at least) because they break down or get discolored or sticky... how do I preserve them so they don't need replaced so often?

Unfortunately there isn't anything that you can do to expand the life of rubber bottle nipples. The silicone nipples do last longer, but a lot of babies won't take to them as well (or at all) as they do the softer rubber ones. The rubber ones just break down and get gummy/sticky feeling the more they're used because of the exposure to heat while washing them.

My son wouldn't take the silicone nipples either. We went through a lot of nipples too, because we were replacing them every couple of months and sometimes every month. It was one thing (besides diapers and wipes) that we had to make sure we stocked up on.

i dont think there is much you can do about it...if you are microwaving the nipples, then this will cause them to wear out alot quicker.
i think if you can get a month's use out of a rubber nipple, then you are doing quite well.

You cant. They need to be replaced if they break down.

Don't ever microwave them...I know that makes them wear out faster.
