I mean materialism corrupts us and our souls, the more we have of material things the more we want and greedy we become.
Why not give spiritual things as holy bibles, audio bibles voice/or dramatized with background sounds, donate to charities in name of a person, sponsoing a third world child in the name of a person/s.

Well, when Jesus was born which as you know thats what Christmas is about 3 wise men brought Jesus material things. So, now we give gifts to each other. It can be about what you make it. Some times people need thoughtful gifts. If you would see the recent question I just asked you would understand that giving can be any kind of thing. Anyways a lot of people do give donations at this time of year its the most giving time. Just enjoy. If you dont want material things tell people to donate in your name and/or stay away from that end of this holiday season. Merry Christmas!

I believe you are confused about how people communicate with each other.

You seem to need more patience. Patient enough to save your opinion until someone else asks for it.

Like this:

Dear chat group,

What would be a really neat gift to give people for Christmas?

then you could answer:

"Why not give spiritual things as holy bibles, audio bibles voice/or dramatized with background sounds, donate to charities in name of a person, sponsoing a third world child in the name of a person/s."

Dear J.J. I have failed again to "kiss up" and automatically agree with the person who asks a loaded question. Please e-mail me and give me some more pointers (points?) on "How to win friends and influence people".

might_po and queenlove know how to do it.

I vote for Rad. However, Bradywurt gets honorable mention. How do you vote, JJ?

I think this is because people have lost sense of their morals in this day and age. Money and material things are what appeal to people, not things such as a charitie or sponcering a third world child. You don't get anything back (in terms of materials) from the things you listed. Personaly i would much rather see a present go towards the good of mankind, but i'm just one person...not the all of society. my family sponcers a child in lebanon, and i think it is much more fullfilling than any material good, but the rest of america doesnt.

because you can only get so many bibles for christmas before you get tired of it

and material things do not always currupt people or every single person on earth would not be worthy enough to live

and those are some pretty harsh statements coming from someone using a computer and paying for internet access. all of which are material things

maybe you should try and stop labeling every one with everything. material things can be bad sometimes, but not all the time. it just depends on what it is and how the person is using it.

or we can go by your logic and just say everyone with a cell phone or a CD player or video games are going to hell, your choice

Well, for one thing, I certainly wouldn't want a bible and/or audio tapes of the bible for a holiday gift, and yes, you have a choice of donating to charities and sponsering for a third world child, but think of this. Some familes are too poor to sponser for others, and most are already in religion, and recieving a bible, book or not, would just be redundant for them. As for the gifts, some familes express their love this way, even if some think greed is born this way.

Nothing from outside the body corrupts, it is what comes from the heart that does. We live in a material world. We are called to be in the world, but not of it. If you don't like Christmas presents, than don't buy or accept any. Nobody in the US will take your head off for it. God loves you anyway.

Cause it's the way we have done things so long.
The spirtual things that are important we give kinda incidental to aquiring the material things .
1. The speaking to other people on the stores, streets and other places we gather.
2. the gifts of money that we give and the reciever never knows where it came from.(salvation army and etc)
3. kind words we say to our family friends and others.
4. When we discover we really care what happens in our world.

Why do you seem to think everyone in the world is christian... i wouldnt give a muslim friend a bible! And i personally... as a christian would not want a bible as a gift as i've already got 4.

I like to give things that people need... my mums getting a curtain pole this year. And things that they will treasure, not things that may end up in the bin on boxing day! Cos i garentee if you gave a bible to a muslim, thats where it would end up.

Not everyone is spiritual and trying to force it on them by bying them a bible every christmas is not the right thing to do! Its wrong. God gave us free will so we could choose wether to be spritual people or not.

Giving material things does not always mean one is materialistic and without spirituality. It can mean that, though. Some people are both. I would say the world in general today is not very spritual though, as they claim to be. Butchering one another in the name of God is hardly the point, is it?

Because to most people Christmas is nor a spiritual day. I am not a christian but spend thousands on gifts. And honestly if u give some one spiritual thing, it might be waste of money unless that person is spiritual.
