I went to a sharepoint demo and still am not clear on what it is and how much it costs for an organization such as mine with less then 850 people in it. Any easy explaination would be appreciated.

Can I download a trial version on my XP pc or do I have to have windows server to run it? What are the parts I need from a server and a client perspective? Is there a developer piece to it? How do I create my website using it to manage my organization's documents?

Sharepoint is a software that you can install for your company and it's VERY useful... it's a centralize place like a website (content management) where you can either host meetings with agendas, keep a tab who came, also keep tabs of tasks. It's very simple to use and add "web parts" to your page in case you need to build a page... you can also have it to store pictures... It shares documents with folks that need to edit a document at one centralize place and you check the document out (no one can make any modifications once it's checked out). It's version control for documents.

We use it for meeting places (to host documents, agendas, meeting minutes, meeting attendance, tasks, etc), personal pages about each employee (about me section), calendar of events, etc. It can be integrated with any Microsoft product.

So all in all... if you want a centralize place to collaborate documents, tasks, agenda items etc with employees all over the place... I would definately get it. It's really easy to set up.

Good luck. Please email me if you have any questions...

Sharepoint is basically a collaboration software from Microsoft. It lets you easily share documents files, calendars, project status, etc. Sharepoint for that many users you should consider installing sharepoint server. I used to work for a webhosting company that offered sharepoint. It costs about 60 bucks a month for 50 users.
