I want to connect up a flashing led on my Suzuki Vitara that comes on when I switch off the ignition and goes out when the ignition's on. I'm not sure how I go about locating a terminal thats only live when the ignition is off.

Thanks Tony

Its easy , One wire goes to Live all the time .The other wire goes to the ign switch .
It works like this , 1...The live is plus all the time . The wire to the ignition is also live when the ignition is on.
This will give 2x live so the led will not light.
2.. When you switch off the ignition the wire from the ignition will become minus (to a led) the led then gets its earthing (minus) through the coil of the cars control relay, fuel pump abs system relay, etc etc.
This will only work with led lights ,any attempt to connect a bulb in this configuration will result in the control relay sticking on.

I dont think that you'll find a connection that is only on when the ignition is off. I did this for a friend once, used a little 12 volt relay with c/o contacts. the coil was wired to a ign. switched connection, a live feed to the common, and a connection from the n/c terminal to a flashing red LED, (and other led terminal to earth, with the other side of the coil!) Still works perfectly 6+ years later. Get a minature relay as the coil will draw a small amount of current.

hi there you could have difficulty trying to do that as it might interfere with your own alarm system if you only have an immobaliser fitted it should be alright there is usually a live feed generated at ignition switch when turned off but you might find the easiest thing to do is run a wire from battery through an on/off switch and work it from there. jock

surley your alarm has a pair for a led or if not just hijack a pair that breaks the negative when the alarm is off.
