We get along pretty good, i mean no big fights just frequent bickering ( we get on everybody's nerves). I love him and I know I don't want to be anyone else. However, my family thinks he's wrong for me. They think I'm too smart for him and that he'll never work hard enough to take good care of us. They also think that we spend waaayy too much time together and that it's unhealthy. He's definitly not who I would have picked out for myself. But I really love him. We're already living together. Do you think we should go ahead and make it official?

Here is a problem that I can definitely relate to since my best friend, a woman, has been with someone who is a good guy but doesn't have smarts or the ability to be more than a laborer. Her parents, friends, and family all thought she could do better and they spent too much time together. Guess what, she could do better but why? Is life about happiness or being with someone who is better? As for spending too much time together, well, how dare you spend so much time with someone who makes you feel happy? What are you a freak? lol. I think everyone needs to spend more time with the people who make them the happiest. I only wish I had more time to spend with my wife and kids with working and all.

Your question revealed a BIG RED FLAG! You said that you bicker a lot and get on everyones nerves. I think in this instance your family might be right and are picking up on things that you are not seeing. I don't think you should be getting married at this particular time. You need to wait and give it a lot more time before you make this decision. Now is not the time!

You should listen to your family for another 6 months. Frequent bickering and getting on everybody's nerves is a sign of immaturity. Don't marry until you stop doing that.

ok, here is what i get from ur paragraph:

"I love him and know i don't want to be w/ anyone else"

"my family THINKS he's wrong. they THINK he's not smart enough or hard working enough for you."

so i think u should go with what is known FOR SURE. no one knows the future. no one knows how hard he is going to work, or if it's going to be "good enough" for you. u will never know that part til u try. as for the Love and Finding a new person, u seem sure that u want him. u are marrying him, not ur family. i understand having ur bf be Approved by ur family. but u should have thought of that before u let the relationship get this serious.

if it was that important to u to marry someone who was approved, u would never have let yourself date this guy for 2 YEARS. therefore, ultimately it is ur decision now to either marry him, or break it off. but make a decision before u hurt him any longer.

It really depends on what you really want out of your life.

Are you going to be happy for the rest of your life with someone you would not have really picked out for yourself? Are you going to be happy with someone that may not be able to provide for you and children if you have them? Are you educated enough to be the bread winner of the family so you do not have to struggle?

Marriage is much more than what you are doing right now, living together. It is a commitment and a tough one to keep up if you are not willing to work at it every day.

You should really take a scrooge trip in your mind and vision what life will be like for you ten years down the line.

Sorry to say, but if your having doubts already than you shouldn't marry him until your sure. Stop listening to everyone else and do what you feel in your heart is right regardless of what anyone else thinks. You and your man need to have a talk, let him know where you stand so you both can work through this, or leave him alone!

Think in stages.

Do they know how smart he is or isn't? Do you? What IQ score would be required?

If he is like me, effort kicks in when or if I see a chance for good things to actually happen, not before.

Maybe you have a better idea of what is or isn't healthy for you than anybody else.

Live together for at least 2 years before you marry anyone.

If you have anything you are unsure about going into a marriage, you should definitely wait. it will be worth it in the end to be sure about something as big as this. Marriage is a HUGE step, obviously u realize that, so don't do something youll regret. talk to your family and find out EXACTLY why they don't agree with your view of your boyfriend and why they don't like him. LISTEN to what they have to say. also, definitely talk this through with your boyfriend. tell him your not sure if your ready for this yet, but you REALLY do love him. this is really your decision to make, but i would say hold off until you are 100% sure of yourself.
