You did not value your job or you would have attended the meeting. If you forgot about it, then you should have called the boss and apologized and not wait for her to call you! Sounds like maybe your attitude towards work isn't too great and maybe you've worn out your welcome. You're not scheduled sounds like they have others who want the work more than you do - after all, you're sitting at computer asking strangers on Yahoo instead of cleaning up, going down to talk to your boss and working things out! She didn't say you were fired so gave you an opportunity. She wanted to see what you would do and you blew it! You should have gone right down there, apologized, promised to smarten up and eagerly asked when you could work another shift, that you would be there in ten minutes if anyone didn't turn up. There are a lot of people looking for work so unless you're prepared to fix this situation, better look around for a new job and don't expect a good reference. In your state, she may not have grounds for instantly firing you, but there are no laws saying she must put people on a work schedule unless you are on a fulltime salaried basis.

Assume? No. Was it a mandatory meeting? If so and you failed to appear, that may be justification to let you go. However, if you're fulltime you have the resources of thel ocal emplyoment commission and filing with them. If you're part-time, then look for another job.

That is a question you should ask your supervisor.
If not ask why the reschedualing.
If yes, ask why.
If no, go to work ask request to speak to your supervisor. If they don't answer your questions tell them you are going higher. If you have a good case. Go.
For either answer. As long as you have a good work ethic. You should maintain your job.

I'm not sure, to tell you the truth. You'd better ask your employer. But it kind of sounds like you are fired.

I think so...but I would call and speak to them personally-just for clarity because I don't like back-door methods of firing a person.
