Like people stop liking MCR because Gerard has blonde hair now. (for example) or they get all pissy because a member from a band has a girlfriend...and they bash the girl? Isn't it all about the music? I mean if they were working at barnes and noble and lived down the street from you would u even date them? most mature and honest answers get the 10 poiints, and for u smartasses, your welcome for the 2 points.

It would be like liking food bc it's cute.even though it taste like crap. That really annoys me. Yea back when i was growing up we did not have the Internet to its potential of today. We had pretty much had 2 things MTV, and The radio. I and i didn't really watch MTV much I listened to the radio. If I heard a song on the radio and liked it I would buy that CD and throw it into my collection.and i usually bought Cd's that I knew i would like the whole CD.Who cares what the look like. They could look like some geriatrics's(old people) for all I care . As long as they rock or sound good that's all I need.Video's killed the radio star ,for people without minds of there own so the song to with i am referring is half right. Music is one of the most unique forms of art out there and if you can not figure that out(not you Ana)You are a dumb *** and very ignorant.Music is my sound track to life, and every time i hear a song i get a picture of a video in my head. Just something in my head.Who cares what they look like as long as they have talent. But if they just like the band member BC they are hot or something, but they do not like the music i guess that is OK.I hate the music by numbers bands.

Well as for MCR they may just be using that as an added excuse to their ever changing sound. I know as a preteen I used to love bands and love their hot members even more. But a sucky band is a sucky band!! (I love MCR by the way so I'm not bashing them...just a generalization!! LOL!)
f someone likes a musician based strictly on looks then they need a reality check. No, they wouldn't date them if they weren't famous. Very few people would have given Gerard Way a second look if he wasn't in a band. Take off that makeup, and the hair, and everything else...he's a normal geeky kid like the rest of us.
I think people are attracted to the glitz and glam of it all. They just need someone to fantasize about and have yet to realize you can like the guy without forcing yourself to listen to crappy music!
But as long as their are hot guys and gals wondering around and being put into the limelight people will tolerate crappy music for the sake of being able to stare....insanity!

I listen to a lot of japanese bands. In that scene it's much different.
Appearance is part of the art in Visual Kei, and theres just something beauttful about watcing people in full renaissance ballroom gowns and such rocking out with classical inspired rock.
It's a bit different here in america, where image is generally used to fit into a specific demogrpahic or scene.
Like I love how the band Aiden makes emo/screamo/hardcore, or whatever you like to call it, but classify themselves as gothic simply beacuse they make themselves look spooky.
I honestly cant say why people like bands for their looks. In other areas of the world, it's sometimes used to enhance the art, I suppose this is also true for some american musicians as well.
I guess I have digressed from the point, focusing on the artist and not the fans.
There just seems to be something inherent in people. They like things that distract them from their own lives or give them something to talk about. This helps to keep them from truly focusing on themselves and facing the issues of life. They see an individual in a band and build up some sort of illusionary alliance, believing that there is something in common with them and that individual. Sort of a tangent of the whole illusions of grandeur concept.
They then see that person act in a way that contradicts, or even completely shatters the fantasy that they have created, which leaves them subconciously feeling betrayed.
And naturally, they find reason to distance themselves, and create seperation so they dont have to feel as if they were in error.
Thats just my take on it.

Hmm, apparently for some it's not 'all about the music'... I saw a Rus'n video the other day of a currently popular song- what a riot! Obviously, for the folks here in regard to THAT band, it IS all about the music... it sure wasn't about the looks of the band. I must admit, even though I'm not so found of Russian pop, I like that band now- because they're 'ugly' and they're great and having a good time! And, No, I wouldn't date your average band member, singer, superstar, period... I like people a little less full of themselves...

The answer to your question is simple - people are fickle and stupid and shallow. They go with fads and follow blindly what the TV tells them to follow and unfortunately no it's not all about the music at all anymore. The music business is exactly that, a business. They want to shift as many units as they can and by having bands change their image they start dialouges between the fans and cause even more units to be shifted. It's all about style over substance and advertising and greedy conglomerate corporations getting their share of this months fad pie.
I suggest you ignore all the hype and media verbal diarrhea and like what you like. I listen to music if I like the music, not if the singer has got a nice shiny new hair do! What's that got to do with what's coming out of your speakers?? Nothing at all. Be your own best friend and listen with your ears not your eyes.

i remember before much music when there were no videos... it had to be about the music... now it's all visual (thanks Madonna) and it seems that most get a recording contract based on how they look and dance b/c they can alter their voices. Visual sells. I think most secretly hold out that they could meet a famous person and be swept away and live the high life. it's all about image and the idea of what they think the famous have and how they live. bashing the girl boils down to good old jealousy.

yea, like basically the whole reason there was a big burst in artists like britany spears or the backstreet boys were because of there looks. they didnt write any of their music, they just sang songs other people would give to them and most of their time was taken up by photo shoots and looking good
it was impossible to related to any of their music because they didnt write it. theres evidence right there that just because bands are well known or anything that that doesnt mean they are good. basically to get big in the record business you have to either be really good looking or have a lot of luck to get yoru music out no matter what your image is
like that band 'yellow card'. oh god, they have a violin player! look out! thats so rebelious and different! ever hear a song w/ the violin in it? its an electric violin and it plays it like a guitar, there is not difference, there music isnt any different than any other emo bands out there. there only famious cause of that image of a violin player in a punk band. pisses me off

I don't care how adorably gorgeous Gerard is, if he didn't write amazing music and sing like an angel, I couldn't care less about him. Same with the other band members. They maybe very attractive, but they mean nothing to me without their amazing musical talents and their awesome personalities!

The people who only like bands because of their looks are shallow people and they do not understand the music world at all. Music should be appreciated because it's an art and it's wonderful. All kinds; All types. I really don't understand how some people can like/love bands just because of their apperance other than:
Young girls-like boy bands-because they are hot to them and their hormones are raging. And they want to listen to them and date them because "they are in a band".
Young guys-like boy bands-because they are boys and they do not want to claim to like an all girl band, because it would make them look like the weaker sex-so most of them only listen to boy bands.
Older women-I feel that once women have gotten to the 25+ stage, they tend to only like bands for the sound they have and the message they are putting across-they've matured beyond the hormonal young girl stage and care about music for what it is MUSIC.
Older men-I believe that some of them are still in the young guys stage and still let their hormones tell them to only listen to the hot girl bands/singers;and they also want to date them because they are in a band.
Again, this is my opinion on this matter and these are the conclusions I've come to. I believe it just depends on which gender group and which age group you fall in to determine why people only like bands because of their looks.
Hope that helped you out!

Americans are obsessed with youth and looks. Evidently, people in other countries are as well, as we export a lot of our pop culture to the rest of the world. Music is often a way for young people who feel alienated to relate to their world. When you are young, you tend to obsess your looks as you are anticipating how it will impact the rest of your life. You are also full of hormones and are beginning to develop a sex drive and looking around yourself constantly for potential partners.
The pop star is a safe outlet for teenage lust. He or she can choose how they appear and control (to a certain degree) their public image.
On the other hand: there are plenty of people who go into music because they are NOT perfect looking or even conventionally cute. (The Ramones, for one extreme example.) These performers are not as universally popular as people like Brittney Spears or Franz Ferdinand, but they often produce music that has more lasting appeal to music fans.
